While in Barcelona, Dan and I made a day trip to the Montserrat Monastery.  This was a 1-hour train ride from Barcelona.

Working off some ice cream at Parque del Retiro.
While in Madrid, we went on a tapas pub crawl where we sampled some Madrilian delicacies.  This was our favorite place, La Casa del Abuelo, where this dude fixed Dan's favorite tapa item, gambas al ajillo (tiny shrimp sauteéd in good olive oil, with fresh garlic and flaming hot red peppers), prepared on a tiny clay pot over an open flame.
We had to visit La Casa del Abuelo more than once.  For 700 pesetas (about $4.00) we got a serving of the sauteéd shrimp and bread to dip.  Here Dan is fixing his favorite bite.  My favorite part was chunks of garlic and the yummy hot red peppers.  This dish goes really well with the local beer.

In Granada, a city in the region of Andalucía.  This is a view of on of the palaces in the Alhambra complex, seen from a window in the stairway of the Alcazaba fort.  This dates back to the 13th century, during the glorious Ferdinand and Isabella times.  It was in one of the rooms at the Alhambra that Isabella met with Columbus to arrage the trip that eventually brought him to Puerto Rico...
Here is our happy couple relaxing after the climb to the top of the Alcazaba fort, enjoying the cool breeze (OK, a little too cold for me...) and the spectacular view of the historic city of Granada.
