Brad called a friendly brewer at one of the local microbreweries and asked if they had any scrap mash screen around from the construction of their brewery. He had some scraps from Lone Star's old hand-milled German mash screen. Quite a score, especially since he let it go at scrap price--$.20/lb or about $60 for enough to make two or three mash screens the size we need.

We really like beer, that's why we have five beers ontap in our kitchen in two kegerators. The kitchen is also where we brew most of our beer, although we'll be moving it outside soon, as our new steam jacketted kettles won't fit thru the door.

We just installed the evaporator and compressor from the used walk-in cooler we have in our fermentation room.

The cost of getting stainless steel welded professionaly has inspired Brad and me to take a welding class through the adult education program at ACC. TIG welding is the process of choice for stainless and Brad and I learned the process in class.

We recently found a few 15 gallon stainless steel tanks from Motorola at a local scrap yard. We only paid $10 each for them and we hope they will be usable as fermenters, but we are still looking into the hazards of N-Butyl Acetate.
