Experience

Dean of Libraries, Austin Community College, Faculty Development and Learning Resource Services (FDLRS) Rio Grande Campus, Austin, Texas September 1985 - present

Management of the Rio Grande Campus Learning Resource Center including: the learning resource center (library) and instructional technology and open access computer center; supervision of 3.5 full-time librarians with 4 to 6 part-time hourly substitute professional librarians; 3.5 full-time circulation staff with 6 circulation hourly/work study workers; budgeting; reference; library-use instruction; and coordination of FDLRS work for ACC's Connections Resource Center for Child Care Providers and Parents.

Current ACC FDLRS activities also include Public Relations Committee co-chair and Staff Development Committee co-chair. Accomplishments during my ACC tenure include: setup and management of the Robbin's Academy Learning Resource Services and 4.5 years of management, supervision and development of all facets of existing and new extension services for 7 FDLRS extension sites.

Other accomplishments include coordination of FDLRS college-wide library-use instruction, and development of a campus-wide information handbook for the campus Vice-President, as well as service on college-wide committees such as the Faculty Evaluation committee.

Primary Course Taught: Administration and Management of Library and Information Science Environments with other graduate program activities including supervision for various collection development class projects; reference and management internships; and speaker for student organization events.

Assistant Professor The University of Michigan, School of Information and Library Studies; Ann Arbor, Michigan, Fall l980 - Summer l985. Responsibilities included: teaching, research, and publication in the areas of management in libraries and information centers, middle management, public library services, and children's services; membership on doctoral research committees; direction of independent research at master's and doctoral levels; supervision of internships/field experiences; counseling/advising at master's and doctoral levels; and committee assignments on university and local area committees.

Teaching Assistant Columbia University, School of Library Service, New York 1979 - l980 with responsibilities including: Training master's students in the database laboratory on SDC, Lockheed, BRS and OCLC; assistance in the audiovisual laboratory with master's level instruction; proctoring of master's level core curriculum course.

Librarian III Children's and Young Adult Specialist Jungman Branch Library, Houston Public Library, Houston, Texas l975-l979. Responsibilities included: Reference, management/supervision, planning, collection development (30,000 volumes), programming and budgeting for children's and young adult services, assistance with adult reference and programming, outreach to over 25 public and private K-12 schools and publicity for children's and young adult services.

Institute of the Year Presenter, Library Administration and Management Association, American Library Association, 1996 to present - The workshop titled "Staffing Issues for the Year 2000") was LAMA Institute of the Year. Additional institute developed and now offered is a regional institute "Integrating Learning with Work: Designing the 21st Century Learning Library."

Member, Steering Committee, Information Literacy Institute, Association of College and Research Libraries, American Library Association, 1997 to present - Member of the team to design a national program for research, study and practice on information literacy.

Co-Chair, Information Literacy Institute Phase III Community Partnerships - Institute level III on Community Partnerships (Todaro idea and project) chosen and funded by incoming ALA President Nancy Kranich for her presidential projects and chosen as theme by all ALA Divisions.
