Elvis Presley vs. JXL

Perhaps you've seen the Nike commercial, perhaps you live in Great Britain and helped put the King back on top (thankyuhvarymuch). Here's a snipet of A Little Less Conversation (Real Audio file), a first ever for the Elvis cannon, allowing a hardly known song to be remixed and released by dj Junkie XL. YEAH!

R.E.M. have placed ten remixes of songs from Reveal on their Web site for fans to download. Michael Stipe said that he heard elements of the electronic music that he listens to within some of the tracks, which became the inspiration behind what the group has titled R.E.M. IX. Six of Reveal's twelve songs were remixed by Her Space Holiday's Marc Bianchi, Andy LeMaster, Matthew Herbert and others.

Jazz

Ken Burns' Jazz Documentary

What can I say about Ken Burn's Jazz documentary that hasn't already been said? Was it enough? Was it better than nothing? Suffice it to say, someday I will own the box set. I thought it was a provacative piece of film, and it made me appreciate the origins of the music, and the pioneers who paved the way, especially Louis Armstrong.

Learn more about these great jazz innovators as well:
Charlie Parker | Thelonius Monk | Miles Davis
Joshua Redman | Terence Blanchard | Roy Hargrove
Blue Note | Verve Jazz

Not to mention, here are some great places to hear jazz:
Mercury Lounge, Austin, TX
New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival

Soul

Stax Museum of American Soul Music

Stax brought us Otis Redding, Issac Hayes, Enterprise Records and much, much more. This site's a celebration of that *and* the musical artform that is Soul and R&B. Check out the celebration here. Can you dig it? I knew you could.

Bands

Here are a few of my favorite bands...
