All of the characters have lived in San Antonio as Kindred for at least a year.
It is February 1, 1997. Crask (one of the Prince's advisors) calls Cyrus and tells him to show up at the Prince's dwelling in two hours. The Prince lives in the Dominion, an exclusive neighborhood about ten minutes north of San Antonio on IH10.
Jacob moves into Austin, and finds that none of the local Kindred are too happy to see him. The Prince there, a Toreador, tells him that he should keep on heading south to San Antonio, where they aren't too picky about their neighbors.
Upon arriving in San Antonio, he calls upon Sattler, another of the Prince's minions. He cleverly lies and marks himself as Caitiff, and asks to be introduced to the Prince. Sattler gives him directions and tells him to show up at the Dominion in an hour.
The Shepherd wakes in his chamber at Screaming Joe's mansion to find a servant looming over him. He reacts in the only rational way, by striking the servant many times. After a bit, the servant recovers and informs him that Screaming Joe wishes to see him.
The Shepherd manages to reach Screaming Joe down in the Dungeon, after climbing down a long series of winding stairs impossible to be safely navigated with human feet, then crossing the infamous Rope Bridge, stretching across the ominous Chasm. He finds Screaming Joe "interviewing" a new candidate, a luckless man in a business suit.
After a certain amount of playful banter, Joe mentions that the Prince had asked to meet the Shepherd some two months ago. Apparently, Joe has decided that now is a good time.
On the way back, the Shepherd makes a creditable attempt to convince himself that the Chasm, the Rope Bridge, and the Long Stairs are all an aspect of Screaming Joe's mental powers. Unfortunately, he fails.
Cyrus is greeted by Cresk upon his arrival. Cresk is a small, handsome man with the sort of personality and interpersonal skills that would make a good politician. He informs Cyrus that Prince David wishes to have him perform two tasks. First, he is to show around (and spy upon) a new resident of the city. Second, he is to accompany Joe Kresh's new Childe and ensure that he doesn't do anything too extreme.
The Shepherd and Jacob are met by Sattler, a huge brute of a man in an ill-fitting (though expensive) suit. They are led into a sitting room where everyone is introduced. The three characters all then have brief audiences with Prince David. These audiences are fairly mundane, save for Cyrus' audience. When Cyrus enters the room, the Prince seriously overapplies his Presence, transforming Cyrus into a rubberized love toy. The Prince simply uses this opportunity to emphasize that Cyrus is to stick to the other two Kindred and ensure that their behaviour is acceptable.
After the Prince is finished mindsoaking Cyrus, Jacob and the Shepherd are allowed back into the audience room. The Prince asks all three Kindred to check out a warehouse for him, as a small task (Crask provides the address; a report is expected sometime within the next week).
Everyone makes an effort to hunt while the Shepherd and Cyrus show Jacob the wonders of the Riverwalk. Jacob answers to his Beast and simply beats up a couple of college kids, robbing them blind and drinking their blood. Cyrus finds some drunk sailors and talks them into letting him drink. The Shepherd slips from the shadows to drink from many passers-by. About an hour afterward, all three characters meet once again in a Riverwalk bar.
Moments after the characters sit down, they are joined by Beezel, of Clan Tremere. Beezel is a slimy little creature with shiny black hair in a stylish "Manson" hairdo, a goatee, and a nice leather jacket. He is somewhat known to be the Tremere who gives the Tremere a bad name. He is also known for attempts to peddle dubiously effective charms against various foes at the drop of a hat. The characters abuse him mercilessly until he stalks off (the final straw is Cyrus' offer to "get him a sailor").
After offending Beezel, the characters go to the warehouse. Jacob takes his motorbike, while Cyrus drives the Shepherd in his beat-up (former) police cruiser. The warehouse itself is in a section of town dedicated to light industry and surrounded by poor Hispanic neighborhoods. The warehouse itself is labeled "Acme Plumbing Supply", and is a standard-looking corrugated metal building surrounded by a chainlink fence topped with barbed wire.
After some debate on tactics, Jacob scales the fence and separates the barbed wire, providing a path for Cyrus to use his boltcutter to open one of the loading dock doors. Meanwhile, the Shepherd covers the other two with his rifle. The interior of the warehouse is laid out rather like a Sam's Club, with boxes and crates stacked in aisles. Notwithstanding the sign on the warehouse door, most of the goods inside appear to be consumer electronics (TV's, CD players, computer components), and some automotive parts.
Moments after the characters enter the warehouse, the lights turn on and a series of apparently driverless diabolic machines (a golf cart with attached sawblades, a forklift with a mounted machine gun, and a work vehicle with a flamethrower) menace the characters. Much mayhem ensues, until all of the devices are dispatched. In particular, Jacob appears to cast a chemical grenade in front of the forklift device, while Cyrus first ignores the buzzsaws and then rips the buzzsaw-machine apart with his claws.
Each character gains five experience points.
