An Introduction to the Fading Word

The Fading Word is a campaign based upon the GURPS rules. Magic is fairly endemic, and spells from both GURPS Magic and GURPS Grimoire have appeared in play, along with a few that don't appear anywhere.

The universe of the Fading Word is dominated by the endless, formless Maelstrom. Both destructive and creative, the Maelstrom instantly consumes all that touches it. Only the Maelstrom Walkers can enter it and survive, but the price they pay for their skills is phenomenal. Some few of these develop the philosophical perfection necessary to walk into the Maelstrom and speak a Primal Word that develops into a world around them. This is in a sense the last free act the Maelstrom Walker makes, as they become the god of their world. Though they have tremendous influence over it, they also can never leave. And, like all things, they and their world will die after some time, though tens of thousands of years may pass first.

The Fading Word currently takes place upon the World of Abbatine, a (roughly) flat disk about 2000 kilometers across, though some of the characters first arrived from the World of Mardaka, another disk-world with a Bridge to Abbatine.
