Rome

With sore feet and knees from the day in the Alps, we took a long night train to Rome for Days 10 and 11, where we "did as Romans do."

Left: Fountains are all over Rome, from which the Romans freely drink This fountain sits in front of the Roman Pantheon. Right: The interior of the Pantheon is the best preserved ancient Roman interior. I almost snapped this shot with the tripod, until a tall female guard chastised me, in Italian, the way only an Roman can.
Left: The chapel housing St. Peter's tomb is ornately decorated with gold. Right: Rome is most interesting at night. After eating pizza in Trastevere, we walked across Ponto Sisto for a spectacular view of St. Peter's reflected in the Tiber. Wandering from piazza to piazza, we encountered Romans socializing, dancing and just enjoying the Roman night. The night was enjoyable to us, too, until we realized that we were hopelessly lost.
