Amsterdam and vicinity, and Paris

A night train from Berlin brought us to Amsterdam for days 4 and 5. Paris occupied Days 6, 7 and 8.

Left: We stayed in Haarlem, 15 minutes and a world away from the party of Amsterdam. Haarlem is a safe, sleepy little town where little girls can wait outside for their shopping mothers. Right: Our guidebooks told us about an old-fashioned minitown in Zaandijk. Touristy giftshops fill the "historical" minitown, although Zaandijk itself is home to many windmills.
Left: John reluctantly modeled his shoes in the Floating Flower Market. The market floats in one of Amsterdam's many canals. Right: Next stop was Paris, where we slept on Rue Cler. This street, between the Eiffel Tower and Invalides, is home to many outdoor markets. Sheltered from the rain inside our hotel room, I watched the action below.
Left: Surprisingly, no guards hasselled me when I set up the tripod in the breathtaking Notre Dame. Right: Overcast skies diminished our view of Paris from her famous tower, leading me to investigate the structure itself. How many millions has the elevator wheel carried to the top?
