Start -> Control Panel -> Network & Internet Connections
-> Setup or Change your Internet Connection
If it brings up the Internet Properties window, hit Setup
The Wizard will start. -> Next
"Connect to the Internet" -> Next
"Setup Manually" -> Next
"Connect Using Modem" -> Next
enter OnRamp Access as the ISP Name -> Next
enter phone number -> Next
connection permissions "Anyone's use" or "My use
only" -> Next
username, password, confirm password -> Next
check the box for a desktop shortcut to the connection -> Finish
to add DNS stuff:
Start -> Connect to -> (right click OnRamp connection) ->
Properties -> Networking tab
double click TCP/IP protocol
select 4th radial button for "Use the following DNS server
addresses"
enter DNS servers primary and secondary.
click "OK"
click "OK" again.
done.

Windows2000
Start -> Settings -> Network and Dial-Up Connections ->
Make New Connection -> Next
second radial button "Dial-Up to the Internet" -> Next
third radial button "I want to set up my Internet connection
manually..." -> Next
"I connect through a phone line and modem" -> Next
enter dial-up number
uncheck "Use area code and dialing rules"
click "Advanced..."

there is no "Logon to network option"

- My Computer -> Dial-up Networking -> Make New Connection

enter "OnRamp Access" and see if the modem listed says
what type it is (V.90 or Flex)
press Next
enter phone number (see above)

- still in Dial-up Networking folder
right click the new OnRamp Access icon
select Properties
under the General tab, uncheck "Use Area Code and Dialing
Properties"
under the Server Types tab
"Type of Dial-up Server: PPP...."
check "Enable Software Compression"
check "TCP/IP"
uncheck all others
click "TCP/IP Settings" button
click fourth radial button "Specify Name Server Addresses"
enter DNS servers
leave WINS all zeros
make sure the last two boxes are checked or X'ed

Telephone Number: _____ (enter area code here if necessary)

Account Name: ___
Password: ___
PPP Options button: make sure it's got the TCP/IP header compression
checked
all other defaults should be fine.
ignore Modem tab and Proxies tab.
hit Save button at bottom right of window.
To connect/disconnect, open the Applications Folder and then open
Internet Connect. |
