The New Horizons Band offers people, approaching and over the age of 50, the opportunity to play in a large band as well as smaller ensembles such as stage bands, polka bands, Dixieland bands and chamber music groups. Prior musical experience is not required! The Austin New Horizons Band is affiliated with the New Horizons International Music Association that has over 100 bands, orchestras and choruses throughout the United States, Canada and Ireland. The Austin Chapter was founded in 1998 and currently has more than 50 members. We perform many free concerts each year in a wide variety of venues throughout the Austin and Central Texas area. The New Horizons Band is under the direction of Mr. Glenn A. Richter, former Longhorn Band Director from 1980 to 1995 and currently Professor of Instrumental Conducting at the University of Texas at Austin. The New Horizons Band rehearses every Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at Westlake United Methodist Church, 1460 Red Bud Trail, West Lake Hills, Texas. |
